Jobless Claims Report Helps Lift Market

The stock market rose Thursday after weekly applications for unemployment benefits fell to a five-year low, raising investor hopes that the labor market is improving.
The report came a day before the government is to issue its report on April employment.
“Everyone is looking to the April jobs numbers,” said Tyler Vernon, chief investment officer at Biltmore Capital. “People are more confident that it was an anomaly last month and are looking for some bigger numbers.”
