Higher Oil Prices Lift Profits at Exxon
Exxon Mobil announced slightly higher earnings on Tuesday. They say they are proud of their investment in natural gas and that they are switching from dry gas wells to wells with other hydrocarbon liquids.
It seems plausible to me as other gas companies have also seen higher earnings with higher gas prices, but it will take it's toll.

Five Things You Need To Know About the Galloway Township School District
http://galloway.patch.com/articles/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-galloway-township-school-district
1:
The district voted to move school board elections to November and to pass their annual budget without voter approval as long as they stay under the 2 percent cap at its meeting last week. Though this may be disappointing to some, it is a representative democracy board.
2:
The Galloway Township School District has joined the 5th annual Jeans for Teens Campaign, sponsored by dosomething.org the district announced Tuesday morning, Jan. 31. The campaign collects gently worn jeans for homeless teens across the country.
3: A handful of people were hired and/or rehired with new salaries that will save the district $20,000 annually.
4: Recently the school district was audited and, though some changes need to be made, there is no loss in federal funding for the school.
5: Recent discussions between the school district and the NCLB reveal that economically disadvantaged children are not scoring as well as children who are not economically disadvantaged. Because of this, they are going to study the free breakfast and lunch programs at the schools at no cost to the tax payers.

A 13 year old boy kills his father and is being tried in juvenile court, rather than being tried as an adult. The boy says that the guy went off accidentally.
In Seattle, one school district is asking for a waiver so that they don't have to make up two school days...this could potentially cost them about $500,000 in food and transportation.

Euro ministers upbeat on Greece, crisis solution
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/27/us-eurozone-davos-idUSTRE80Q0YZ20120127
Euro zone finance officials voiced optimism on Friday that a deal to avert a disorderly Greek default was imminent and that key building blocks to resolve Europe's sovereign debt crisis are gradually fitting into place. An agreement between the Greek government and bonholders has been made. Italy's borrowing costs have fallen under 2%; however, both european governments and institutions need to step up their support to pull Greece out of this for they are still over 120% indebted. The goal is more firepower for a firewall against this kind of fall, and new packages and plans are being drawn hesitantly to do just that.

Orman's prepaid card might offer teens a chance to learn
Suze Orman, a financial expert, is promoting an alternative to credit and debit cards, The Approved Card. The Approved Card is a prepaid card that people can load and withdraw money from and use at ATMs. This card has lower fees than most prepaid cards if one follow the rules in the fine print. The article thinks The Approved Card is a good idea that could help teens and college students ease their way into actual credit and debit cards but the article is also skeptical because of the fine print and because the card isn't competitive fee wise if the user doesn't follow the rules and doesn't build credit history.

Canadian man sentenced to 18 years in prison in 1 of largest credit card schemes in US history
Adekunle Adetiloye, a Canadian man, scammed a credit card company out of nearly $5million using two different aliases. This is said to be the larget fraudulent case the country has ever seen and is one of the most complex to ever be investigated resulting in new specialized research teams to sort out the problem. When he went to court they had nearly 12,000 pages of documents against him, yet his atourney, due to his foreign roots, asked for a sentence less than 16 years. We have yet to see how all of this will play out. The government wants this to serve as a warning to anyone attempting to steal money like this. Even the largest and most complex bank robber thus far in history was caught and will get his due justice.
Blacks face Bias in Bankrupcy, Study Suggests
Though it seems like it would depend on the person, Blacks are twice as likely to end up in bankrupcy than whites. A study sjhowed that blacks were being steered that way much more than whites by lawyers. It was also shown that blacks were being steered more towards a "chapter 13", which makes paying off debts take much longer than "chapter 7". There are advantages to both, but to me chapter 7 seems to be a better idea..

The Stock Market Lovesd President Obama
The stock market has gained 60% since overall since President Obama's Innauguration, a feat that only Bill Clinton, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt can claim. However, correlation does not always equal causation. Pres. Obama took office shortly after the market's bottoming out, which historically is always a time of massive growth. Pres. Obama is oftentimes seen as pro-business control, arguing that he may perhaps have not helped it much at all. There have been several policies by him that have caused large economic losses, such as the failing of the Super-Committee last month. The overall changes seem promising, but we can not yet identify the president's impact on the market's gains.

City to pay $525,000 after cops beat autistic teen at family’s restaurant
A brutal beating of an autistic teenage boy causes a law suit to erupt ending in the paying of $525,000 to the teens family. The article shows the results of cops who jump to conclusions. This autistic boy, Oscar, was beaten for a simple movement that made him look like he was carrying a weapon, he ran because he is a special needs child who got scared. Special needs children do not always realize that things they do that seem harmless to them, may seem as a threat to others. This is no excuse, though, for the police men who allegedly beat him while the parents of the child continuosly yelled that he was a special needs child. After the beating had ceased, the police refused to listen to the parents and threatened to arrest Oscars sister. If Police continue to cause havoc like this, more of the tax payers dollars are going to be paying for the damage.
MTV's Latest iPhone App-
MTV, a popular television network, has released an app called "My College Dollars". The app takes information from your Facebook profile and autofills it into a database, which then finds Scholarships that are perfect for you. The app also helps students gain access to FAFSA so they can fill it out.
There are also video tutorials with well known celebrities that help you to go through all of the processes and to go over the different kinds of financial aids.
This is a great source for teens, because MTV is a popular networking and appeals to the demographic. It makes the Financial Aid process a bit more interesting to those who think the process is long and boring.

One student gets creative to pay for college
The average prices of Colorado Colleges is rising where as the average American income isn't. This may make it hard for students to pay for college, if they cannot get help with financial aid and student loans. However students like John Stickle ( a Sophomore at Front Range Community College ) found a new way to pay for college. By selling all of his valuables he was able to purchase an Ipad. With his Ipad he created his an APP where he will make 70% off of ever purchase to help him pay for his college.
City to pay $525,000 after cops beat autistic teen at family’s restaurant
Whoa. That's all that I can say to law enforcement abusing anyone, let alone a mentally challenged individual. I find it interesting that they were more worried about loosing officers on the street than they were about giving the family money to support their beaten child. They claimed that the $525,000 was worth 7 or 8 foot patrol officers and did not explain what the money was worth to the family.
This may financially effect the Chicago Police Department, but if they are not willing to spend the money to train their officers and get the right people they must want to have the financial burdens placed on them. With this being a reoccurring thing, they either need to learn or pay up.

When Markets move in sync...
This was about how markets often can move in sychronization with each other and how you have to find a spot when they hit a low and purchase many so you will profit when they move back up in sync. I thought this was helpful but I'm not fully sure I understood.

I like how daring this guy was and I never would've been brave enough to do this. It is really cool that he taught himself how to develop apps for the iPhone and iPad and sell them. It's such an interesting way to earn money for college and I hope he succeeds.

As well I think that the court system should be spead up so that trails can be conducted while they are still relevant.

Stock Market Midday Update: Kodak Bankruptcy, Fed Report, Lead Headlines
This article is very interesting as it talks about Kodak Imaging Company filing for bankruptcy, causing stocks to plummet to less than a dollar a share. Kodak's recent financial woes have stemmed from their inability to keep with digital camera companies. Kodak actually claimed to have invented the digital camera, but held the tech back in fear of its effect on their film business.

The Skinny on Checking Accounts for Teens
Opening up a checking account as a teen can be very smart, however it can also be risky. Teens will begin getting into the real world of money at a younger age instead of getting tossed into it after high school. Unfortunately, with opening up a teen account, you have to monitor how much you spend very closely. New advances in communication allow people to view their account ballance frequently through online and also through text messaging. Parents are also able to monitor their childs' account. With the help of their parent, teens are guided and taught how to make smart decisions when dealing with money.
Why Teen Car Insurance is Expensive...
I found it really interesting that teen drivers are responsible for the most accidents. I thought that I was a very cautious driver in the beginning, even more so than I am now. You should become more relaxed, but this study proves that the most accidents are in the first 6 months of driving. I also found it interesting that driving is the most dangerous thing that we as teenagers do. When they say this, I think of drugs and roller coasters, not driving a car.

Direct General Selects Innovation Group's Innovation Auto Services
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/direct-general-selects-innovation-groups-innovation-auto-services-2012-01-17
Direct General is partnering with Innovative Auto insurance plan to provide direct serives via store fronts and the internet throughout twelve states. The companies feel this is an exciting move to better the services provided to their claim customers. This move will result in more repairs and faster services due to increased locations available to their clients. The Innovation Auto Group provides the software necessary for this outsourcing and will enable the insurance coverage to go global more readily.
I think this is a smart move for both of the companies, for they will be able to expand as they lean on eachothers resources as they grow. However, it is in limited areas and provide exceptional service to only a few making it seem to be the opposite of their goal: to expand this greater coverage to all. Eventually though, I am sure that they will make this a reality across all of the country as the outsourcing matures and the kinks and glitches are worked out. It is nice to see technology put to such good use as to protect insureance customers.

This article was interesting for me because I know that we don't have a Donate My Dress chapter anywhere near us. The closest one I know of is in Colorado Springs and I think it would be a good idea to start one in northern Colorado as well. I enjoyed the article because I like the Donate My Dress foundation. The organization's purpose is to make teenage girls feel better about themselves and provide them with an opportunity to go to prom.
Decinding who's Rich (or smart) enough for high risk investments

The government has issued that only those rich or smart enough can invest in private stocks. I don't think it is fair that the government is deciding what people can or can't do with their own money, but I can sort of see where they are coming from. Only the sophisticated can purchase these unless they are rich, which I personally don't think is completely right. They just dont seem to want people to be going into high risk investments if they dont have the money or the smarts to do something with them.

Paying for College is Possible if You Star Planning Early.
http://enumclaw.patch.com/articles/education-expert-paying-for-college-is-possible-if-you-start-planning-early
In this article, I learned about a man named Charlie Hoff. He believes the earlier you start planning for college, the more opportunities will arise for you and your child. More financial assistance will be readily available to you and your range of schools will be much broader.
He also says that a few uninformed choices made in middle school will also eliminate your choices later on in your school career.

How I Paid For College on a Paper Boy's Salary
http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2012/01/12/how-paid-for-college-on-paperboys-salary/
This is an interesting article that makes me chuckle because we don't think a "paper boy salary" is an acceptable form of college funds, but this fellow certainly pulled it off. He started saving when he was eight with the small dollar bills he got for odd jobs but with increasing pay and furthering interest rates, he had $20,000 in his college savings account by the time he was graduated from college.
I learned that it doesn't take a lot of money in the beginning to add up to a lot in the end. Set savings goals every month and put away up to that mark. By the end of ten years or so, you will be surprised at how much money sits in that bank account. Also, don't just save what's "left over," take away the savings first then spend those "left overs." Making it a priority leaves far more money in the bank account and less at the mall.
College isn't an all-or-nothing endeavor. Take out the loans if you have to, get it done, and get it paid back. Everything and anything is possible.

How I Paid for College on a Paperboy's Salary
I learned that people really can pay for college on their own, just by having a job and saving. I'm not really sure about how he invested his savings in the stock market and benefited from being lucky and making money, because he could have easily lost his entire savings and that doesn't seem wise to me. Now that I've read this article, though, I have hope that I myself can try and save up enough for my college tuition. I liked that he was smart and a success story in this article.

Teens Struggling to Find Elusive Part-Time Jobs
This article did not surprise me at all. Although I have managed to get a part-time job several times, I was oftentimes competing against other applicants who had college degrees and were 10-20 years older than me. I am glad I have this job experience, as I know friends without job experience who can not get jobs for that reason. It seems like a dumb system, seeing as to get job experience, you need a job.
