Families Find Ways to Pay for College

If you are a parent with a kid heading to college, you already know it is going to cost you a bundle.
The other issue -- how much college tuition is going to change your life. Some families wonder whether they can afford that "dream school," while others are trying to figure out if they can afford a college education at all. When looking for the perfect college or university, the attention is not solely on the program. Students and their parents also look at how much it will cost.

The app, which summarises news stories, will now close and its features will be used in mobile products at Yahoo!. Nick will also start a full-time job at the web giant while he studies for his A-levels.

He said: "I'm hoping to stay [at Yahoo!] as long as it takes to get the technology integrated.

"I think this is an amazing opportunity and I didn't want to miss it."

Needs vs. Wants Changing When It Comes To Home Buying

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2013/03/25/needs-vs-wants-changing-when-it-comes-to-home-buying/

People are looking for more of what will be useful to them when buying a home. They aren't looking for as much for the things they want like pools, grand entryways, and balconies. They are looking for things like storage, linen closets, and kitchen pantries. Also, if it's close to where they work so they can cut down on their gas usage because gas prices are so high. Home buyers are also trying to be more green when it comes to looking for their new home. People are looking for what they need and not what they want to have.

It's Your Money: Provision for teenage seasonal workers

http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S2976869.shtml?cat=566

Businesses get money back for hiring teenage seasonal workers. Budget deadline is April first. Fiscal Policy Institute, a public policy research group, says this could be problematic, putting the jobs of older workers at risk.  Teenagers have been  pounding the pavement, trying to find summer jobs. But for those with no experience, it's been tough.
A provision tied to the minimum wage increase could change things.

T-Mobile Shakes Up Its Service

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/technology/t-mobile-unveils-aggressive-phone-pricing-with-no-contracts.html?_r=0&adxnnl=1&ref=business&adxnnlx=1364391044-qZDTcIWiB2FezTn3nIzmRg

In an effort to defeat its competition, TMobile is planning on selling the IPhone cheaper than competition and customers would not, I repeat, would not have to sign a contract. This would mean the IPhone would cost $100 up front but additional payments of $20 per month for two years would be instilled. This plan will also be available with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Blackberry Z10. IPhone set to be available April 12.

I don't know if this seems like a better plan because people might scour the stores only thinking about paying the $100 and how easy that would be to pay $20 a month to keep the phone, but in reality, it's probably harder to do this than actually paying full price for the phone. I think this is a great way for TMobile to make money, but is it really fair?

British teen sells Summly app for millions

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/9952658/British-teen-sells-Summly-app-for-millions.html

A south London schoolboy has become one of the world’s youngest tech millionaires after selling his mobile app to Yahoo! Nick D’Aloisio, 17, developed the app, called Summly. The app, which summarizes news stories, will now close and its features will be used in mobile products at Yahoo!. Nick will also start a full-time job at the web giant while he studies for his A-levels. Nick received almost $30 million for the app, which has been downloaded around one million times since its launch last year. Nick, who lives with his family in Wimbledon, said he had "boring" plans for the money. "I'm planning to invest it - my parents are in control of it," he said. "I want to buy a shoulder bag." Summly condenses news articles into three key paragraphs that fit onto an iPhone screen. Users can customize the news categories and link to the original article if they like the summary.

6 Ways to Get Paid for Saving Money

http://www.wisebread.com/6-ways-to-get-paid-for-saving-money

I think these are all great ways to get money for saving money except those two sites that allow you to track your savings and pay off your debts. I believe this because maybe some people don't have the trust the website needs in order to use them because of the fact that they're websites.

I also think it's nice that many bank and credit unions have cash incentives for people that save money. (below)

3. Earn Bonuses for Setting Aside Money in Savings Accounts

Many banks and credit unions have cash incentives for customers who commit to saving. For example, BBVA Compass matches a percentage of transfers from a checking account to a savings account; you can earn up to $250 per year through the Build My Savings program. Bank of America also contributes up to $250 through its Keep the Change program.
And, I learned via Money Crashers that Citizens Bank has a CollegeSaver savings accountthat gives a one-time $1,000 bonus when your child reaches 18 if you make minimum monthly deposits.

Are We On the Brink of a Homebuying Frenzy?

http://realestate.aol.com/blog/2013/03/22/home-buying-frenzy/

There has been a big demand for houses by consumers that are eager to take advantage of low home prices and low interest rates, in the past few months. This leaves a big question to be answered, that if this new spark will lead to a homebuying frenzy. This is what about what was going on several years ago when the millions of people ran into with borrowing money and paying their mortgage, that almost all ended in foreclosure. So this upcoming frenzy could be positive or end up being a repeat of what happened several years ago.

Are We On the Brink of a Homebuying Frenzy?

http://realestate.aol.com/blog/2013/03/22/home-buying-frenzy/

There has been a significant uptick in demand for homes by consumers eager to take advantage of still-low home prices and record-low interest ratesThe shadow industry (foreclosed homes) may be holding back home prices, but it could also provide a positive impact. This pent-up demand from potential borrowers is due largely to the financial problems that millions nationwide ran into over the course of the past several years. There used to be 1.3 million new households created annually in America, but now it's down to 600,000. People who fell behind in the past are getting ready to flood the market and significantly increase demand for what is currently a rather limited number of available properties. However, all these buyers coming back into the market might not be a positive for other buyers.

One college student said she doesn't want to pay for her money, which is understandable. Another did use a credit card but had a small balance on it so she wouldn't over spend. Everyone is encouraging these young people because the credit they get is great when buying a home or a car and that is necessary for our economy.
