On average, about 4% less women are accepted to a college, even though women usually are 60% of the applicants. Bev Taylor, founder of Ivy Coach, said women are just expected to be more on top of their game in most cases. This leads to the domino effect. Schools need just the right amount of AP and regular classes. As women generally apply for the tougher classes, which could lead to more drop outs or some classes too large.

Virginia teacher arrested for allegedly firing blanks at students
A Virginia teacher has been charged with 12 felony counts after allegedly pulling a blank firing gun on his students and firing several times. "One for each student who was in there. And basically the charges result of inciting fear into the students," Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman told KSDK.com. "He then pulled a 'blank firing handgun,' black in color, from the back waistband of his pants and discharged the weapon between four and ten shots in the direction of the line of the students," according to a police statement. "The 'report' of the firearm was similar to that of a firearm that fires a projectile, thus placing the students in fear, according to statements. No students were physically injured as a result of the incident." The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the charges levied against Dillow are all class 6 felonies, each punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,500 fine. Dillow has since been released on a $20,000 bond.

Credit card budgeting is difficult
First do a household budget, make sure you have enough money in the bank to pay the monthly bill off, and make sure you aren't spending it if you don't have the money to pay that bill. Use the higher rate cards that give you a certain amount of time to not have to pay intrest, because then you can pay it off without any interest and only have lost the money you spent on that.

How the Hunger Games Explains This Year's Low College Acceptance Rates
The Hunger Games movie opened to over $152 million, the highest grossing movie opening of all time for a non-sequel but this is actually inaccurate. Factoring in inflation, Gone With the Wind still has the highest grossing box office numbers of all time, not the Hunger Games. This article is saying that the same principle applies to college acceptance rates. Colleges are receiving an all-time high number of applicants and their acceptance rates are technically still the same but because the number of applicants increased, it seems like the number of kids they are accepting is decreasing. The article says not to panic and apply to loads of schools because colleges look at how passionate you are about being at the school from your application and you'll get rejected more if you are only applying so you can be accepted somewhere.

OUR OPINION: Something new to pay for college
http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/234544/
Instead of having a tuition, UC students propose that admission be free and instead each individual would pay 5% of their annual salary for 20 years back to the school for their education. Ensure every single students pays, burdening every single student, even the rich ones. This creates an even playing field and would remove federal funding. I'm 50/50 on this issue. I'm all about being debt free. This also removes scholarships and grants and the like. In my eyes tuition cost would almost certainly skyrocket because you would be locked in for 20 years with no way out by a job and time. So bums with no job would not have to pay for their education. In that case, just wait 20 years and then get your high powered job.

If You Should Keep Your Credit Card Or Not
Deciding whether or not to keep a credit card should be based on your financial goals and not your credit score. If you are wanting to use your money on dept you want to pay down like your house, a vacation, or a retirement plan, you shouldn't keep having to pay for the monthly credit card payment. If you are wanting to apply for a mortgage or car loan, then you should keep the credit card.

Why a Budget Could Cause You to Spend More
The article was about a study conducted at Emory University. The study found that people were more likely to buy high quality, high priced items if they had a budget, whereas people without a budget had lower priced items without unnecessary features. The reason for this is that when there is a budget set, people tend to focus on items near the top end of their budget and ignore the better value items below their set budget. The article said that this attitude could also cause potential homebuyers to buy more house than they need.

Teens Still Texting and Driving
http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/315059/3/Survey-Teens-still-texting-and-driving
A survey was taken, and it shows that only 43% of teenagers said they have NEVER texted while driving, leaving a 57% majority to the teens who do text and drive. On the show Glee, a girl was texting and driving and got blindsided for a truck. Even though social media tries to discourage it, it doesn't seem to be on a big enough scale to really influence kids.

Fake IDs
In Iowa, police are focusing on fake ids. They discovered the amount of them are increasing so they are searching them out and doing some questioning. An officer might take your ID and ask you questions, like your name, date of birth, address. It is not uncommon for one to memorize this information, however police have realized that they will get everything right but not the zipcode. This tells the cops that its not real. Also, they will look very closely at the photo on the ID, some are very noticable that they are fake, but they are getting smarter and making them look more like the person who's hand they are in. Restaurant owners have also noticed an increase of Fake IDs being used in their restaurants. Because of this, Police and Restaurant owners have decided to extensively train the bar tenders to look and search for fake IDs.
Families Discover Creative Ways to Save Big Money

Their home is small and insulated, allowing for an electric bill of around $40 per month. It is easy to see how this strategy helps to save big in this recession.

Teen Steers School Bus to Safety When Driver has a Heart Attack
A middle schooler steered a bus to the side of the road and pulled the keys out of the ignition when he saw the bus driver not being able to breathe and passing out. Another student then performed CPR on the bus driver. The question this incident raises is whether or not students should be trained in CPR and emergency situations. Every student could learn to shut off the bus, open the bus doors, and perform CPR. Schools should teach children useful things.

Car Loans Lead Consumer Borrowing
http://www.npr.org/2012/04/06/150148187/car-loans-lead-consumer-borrowing
The Associated Press says that Americans took out more loans to buy cars and attend school in February but used their credit cards less frequently for the second straight month.
The Federal Reserve said Friday that consumers increased borrowing by $8.7 billion, the sixth straight monthly increase. This could be an indication of forward thinking in Americans in 2012 and/or a slight lift in long term economics within our county having to do with intesterst rates. Now is apparently the time to borrow.
