D.C. taxicabs will allow credit cards by March 30

http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/morning_call/2013/01/dc-taxicabs-will-allow-credit-cards.html

Starting in March, taxis in Washington D.C. will start accepting credit cards. They will have a new "smart meter" in them for the ease of riders and for individual taxi owners to be able to accept whichever cards they want to. Overall, this advance could have many benefits, like if someone forgot their cash at home, or they haven't gone to ATM yet, they can swipe their card and get to where they need to go. Some cons in this is if someone uses their credit card all the time and they rack up an even bigger bill for their transportation, which is more to pay and it ends up making your interest rates higher if you don't pay more than you did before.

A group of people are going to nurses stations to steal peoples credit cards. The police have identified their vehicle but they have not yet been apprehended. The article mentions one woman who's account was charged $4,000 because these people took her card. I think it's sad that organized crimes like this exist.

Don't Take Financial Advice From Justin Bieber

http://www.fool.com/how-to-invest/personal-finance/credit/2013/01/17/dont-take-financial-advice-from-justin-bieber.aspx

A pre paid debit card is a risky thing and fans are following Bieber fever everywhere. They are going to want to have one. That's not the answer financially to have a pre paid debit card. Giving kids the responsibility on how to work with there money is a good goal but not the right thing to do when you're financially in trouble. What the kids are spending money for really helps the parents with knowing what their actions are. They would charge you for certain things such as not using your debit card within 90 days. Pre paid debit card is not a smart thing because they cost a lot of money and are a big responsibility for a kid.

Spoiled Children

In this article Spoiled Children it suggests that the students who have there parents paying for their schooling more or less have a higher rate of getting lower grades. While the students who are having to work for their education and pay for college them selves, are doing a bit better grade wise.

Spoiled Children

Most people think that children with rich parents do better in everything without trying, but thats not true. The article that I chose to read says that children with rich parents don't do as well academically. Just because they don't try as hard.

Older Americans carry more credit card debt

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2013/01/15/older-americans-credit-card-debt/1836187/

This article was about how the older generations of Americans, above the age of 50, tend to have more credit card debt. This is because older Americans are more likely to turn to credit cards when they are tight on money. Most of the credit card use is for either car repairs of house repairs. This study is interesting to me because credit card debt is usually associated with the younger generations.

Paying For Kids' College? Don't Expect All A's

http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/3774-kids-grades-decrease-as-parents-financial-help-increases.html

Parents who pay for their children's higher education shouldn't be surprised that their grades show they aren't making the most of their opportunity, new research finds.
The study by Laura Hamilton, a professor at University of California, Merced, found that college students' grades went down as the amount of financial assistance they received from their parents went up.
"Regardless of class background, the toll parental aid takes on GPA is modest," Hamilton wrote. "Yet, any reduction in student GPA due to parental aid — which is typically offered with the best of intentions — is both surprising and important.

What Factors Affect Your Credit Score

http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/16/what-factors-affect-your-credit-score/?ref=your-money

A new web site offers a tool that is free and can help you see how good or bad financial steps can affect your credit score. Although there are other sites that claim to do the same, they're not. In this site, you don't have to pay for the information requested, unlike the other similar web sites. The "score planner" tool doesn't require you to register in any way. All you have to do is answer a series of questions and the site will help you immensely.

I think that this is a very useful tool, but I fear that maybe your personal and financial information is at risk. I don't know if too many people will trust the tool, but it would help a lot of people if they did.

Spoiled Children

http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/01/14/study-finds-increased-parental-support-college-results-lower-grades

Knowing that the more money the parents are spending on their kids is decreasing their grades is bad in the financial world and how the parents are struggling for nothing. The money that the kids are wasting could get them a good career and really make a difference and take advantage of the spoiled children's parents.

Baby, Baby: Prepaid Debit Cards No Cause for Teens to Scream

I do think that since Justin Bieber is endorsing pre-paid debit card that amount of them bought will go up. The reason that I think this is because there is that certain amount of people that have to have what ever their favorite celebrity has. I also think that there will be a decrease in the sales because there are a ton of people who really do dislike him. That is what I think will happen with the pre-paid debit cards and Bieber.

New Mortgage Rules Left Out Down Payments

http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/10/new-mortgage-rules-left-out-down-payments/

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau created new rules to help prevent consumers from risky mortgages that contributed to the most recent financial crisis. These rules make it so lenders can't offer deceptive interest rates that appear low. These rules are to be applied next year, which means that there is still time for new requirements to be made, like making a down payment beforehand.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323596204578241984027206580.html

I don't think that these pre payed card that Justin Bieber has resently made are going to last very long. There isn't a lot of older teens that follow Justin Bieber, and most of his buisiness is going to come from older teens rather than younger teens.

The Wall Street Journal is trying to get teenagers more involved with finance by offering a list of books and websites that aren't focused on adult finances, but teen fiances so they won't get bored. This is a good idea so it can get them ready for their financial future.I think it is a good idea to give teenagers the tools now, so they can start planning for their future

Baby, Baby: Prepaid Debit Cards No Cause for Teens to Scream

I think that Justin Bieber supporting the prepaid debit cards will make thirteen year old girls want one... But I don't think that it will make any one else want one. I really don't want one now.

Kentucky man buys Kmart inventory, gives it all away

Rankin Paynter, a Kentucky native, bought all of the inventory in a Kmart that was closing in two days, for 200,000 dollars and then ended up giving it to charity.  Paynter is a successful businessman, he had a rough time when he was growing up. "It was hard sometimes," Paynter said. "Tied rags around my feet sometimes too. I only had summer slippers." Paynter's massive gift to Clark County Community Services was the organization's single biggest donation ever.

Santander, JAC get China OK for car loan venture

Santander, which is already a leading car financier in Europe and the U.S said  the deal allows it to gain a foothold in the largest market in the world. I think that sounds very smart and there will be definitly lots of more money because of this deal.

Prepare for Financial Aid Changes in 2013

http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/paying-for-college/articles/2013/01/14/prepare-for-financial-aid-changes-in-2013

The new year is only a few weeks old, but there are already reasons for college students to pay attention to the financial aid landscape for 2013.
As part of a deal passed January 1 to avert the so-called fiscal cliff, education tax benefits previously set to expire were extended for five years. Through 2017, families or students can claim the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) to receive a credit of up to $2,500 for college expenses, including tuition and textbooks.

College admission may get easier as ranks of high school graduates drop.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2013/01/college-admission-may-get-easier-as-the-ranks-of-high-school-graduates-drop.html

High school graduates will face less competition for college admission in the next decade due to a demographic decline in their ranks. I would have to agree with this article due to the fact that I see so many students dropping out for numerous reasons daily. Its a sad sight, but it is what really happens. If more and more kids drop out than its true college will have less enrolled incoming students, making it easier for students who did enroll to be accepted.

Prepare for Financial Aid Changes in 2013

http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/paying-for-college/articles/2013/01/14/prepare-for-financial-aid-changes-in-2013

As of January 1st, there has been some talk about changing in Financial Aid. There has been some talk about  a fiscal cliff , education tax benefit. But nothing has been set in stone,  the memebers of Congress still have until March 1st to make their final changes.

Consumers Wise Up on Credit Cards

http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2013/01/10/consumers-wise-up-on-credit-cards/

Many people believe that using credit cards is a fast way to destroy your credit and abolish your financial budget. However, statistics show that the number of card delinquencies has dropped to an 18 year low in the third quarter of 2012. This is because people are being more careful with their debt and making sure to pay off the card on time.

Baby, Baby: Prepaid Debit Cards No Cause for Teens to Scream

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323596204578241984027206580.html

Justin Bieber is now sponsoring prepaid debit cards in order to get more teens to acquire them, but I think it may make the problem worse because bieber is not universally popular.
